If you are an avid boater, you know how important it is to choose the right anchor to ensure a safe boating experience. With a variety of types available on the market, it's a tough task to choose the right one to meet your needs as there are no one-option-fits-all anchors: each design is intended to perform under certain conditions. Consider the type of bottom you usually have to anchor on and choose from the two most common types of anchors: fluke or plow.

The most popular type of anchors is still considered a fluke anchor as this is an optimal variant for smaller boats. The key peculiarity of the fluke anchor is its light weight. It stows flat and holds a boat well enough if the bottom is sand or mud. Besides, it will stay in place even if the weather is windy. Overall, the main feature which makes the fluke anchor that popular and common is the perfect combination of its power-to-weight ratio; you can go with a smaller anchor which is guaranteed to hold better than other ones. But if the bottom is grassy or rocky, this anchor is not the best option.

A plow or scoop anchor will hold your boat perfectly if the bottom is grass, mud, or rock as it has roll bars, which allow the anchor to self-correct its position and stay in place, still holding the boat properly when buried in rocky or grassy bottom. Besides, scoop and plow anchors are usually used on more powerful or cruising boats. They are quite heavy compared to fluke anchors, though they're relatively easy to release if pulled vertically. A plow anchor will remain in place if wind or current direction is slightly changed.

Be sure to choose the right anchor depending on the type of boating you usually do, your vessel's length, displacement, and windage. In our online catalog, you will also find shallow water anchors which do not use a rope, keeping the boat in place using the hydraulic tube that digs itself into the bottom. This anchor allows you to choose between various modes depending on the type of bottom - there are special modes for mud and hard bottom. From simple designs to advanced anchors with features such as LED depth indicators and deployment notification alarm, we offer a wide variety of options to suit your application.
