Hull Anodes

Boat anodes are crucial parts that help to protect the vessel's metal components located below the waterline from galvanic corrosion. Mainly, it's a hull, propeller, and rudder, so sacrificial anodes are offered in suitable designs that allow for attaching them most effectively. As for the hull anodes, they can be rectangular, oval, or teardrop-shaped, and their mounting types also differ. Some models are bolted onto the hull, while others are welded with the help of metal straps. Anyway, there must be a reliable connection and good electrical conductivity with a hull.

Anode material is another important factor to consider when you choose these products. They can be made of zinc, aluminum, or magnesium, which differ by their activity and have to be selected depending on the water type. Salt water is the most aggressive environment in terms of corrosion, so if you want your anodes to serve longer, zinc is the finest option. However, it's not quite suitable for providing adequate protection in fresh water. Aluminum anodes feature lower density than zinc ones and can be used in salt and brackish water. Magnesium anodes are the lightest ones, and their lifespan in salt water is extremely short; that's why it's recommended to use them in fresh water only.
