Marine radars first appeared more than a hundred years ago and now remain the major navigation system that uses radio waves to detect boats, landmasses, and other objects located several miles away from the vessel. Thus, you can safely continue your trip and avoid collisions even in poor visibility conditions. Meanwhile, marine radars are not the same; there are several kinds of them, and some of the most popular ones are dome and open array radars. The latter are usually more powerful, heavier, and able to provide a higher resolution on the screen.
The last of these advantages is especially appealing to hardcore anglers who want to see such small objects as birds helping them to find good fishing places. Marine open array radars feature a greater operating range (from 60 to 90 nautical miles approximately) and enable you to reveal storm fronts and other weather conditions from afar. It makes sense to invest in this type if your boat is large enough and meant for large distances. Also, it should have a strong hardtop or another mounting base, as most arrays weigh from 45 to 70 pounds.
