The valvetrain systems installed in four-stroke marine engines and their automotive counterparts have much in common. Like a car motor, the inboard or outboard engine may have a SOHC, DOHC, or OHV configuration, depending on the construction of the cylinder head. In the first and second variants, one or two camshafts are installed above the valves and are driven by the crankshaft via the timing belt or chain. In most cases, the chain is considered more reliable and durable; it can be virtually maintenance-free, given that motor oil responsible for lubing this crucial mechanism changes regularly.
However, everything may happen, and if bad lubrication or too many workhours is the reason, chances are high that in addition to a chain, you will also need a camshaft, sprockets, tensioner, and some other parts required for engine rebuild. In our online store, you will find a large assortment of marine valvetrain parts designed for various engine makes and models and available in kits or individually. Many kits also include valve lifters that can be of flat tappet or roller type, hydraulic or mechanical. All of them are sourced from reputable brands standing behind their products.
