Still deploying and retrieving your heavy anchor and rode by hand? Why suffer if anchoring can be made an easy task to tackle with dependable anchor winches we offer? A powerful electrically or hydraulically operated mechanism, the anchor winch will allow you to easily set and raise your anchor in a few minutes requiring no effort from your side. Make your boating experience even more comfortable and pleasant using this anchoring equipment!

An anchor winch consists of a motor and a capstan that draw the anchor and the chain it is connected to. The size of the winch you pick as well as its power output should always be based on the weight of the anchor and the length of the line you want it to pull. The last criteria are always in direct correlation with the type, size, and displacement of your vessel. As a safety measure, it is better to opt for the one that has enough power to be able to pull three times its actual working load. The pull capability required for your anchor winch is calculated by summing up the weight of the anchor and chain, and multiplying the number by three.

Vertical and horizontal winches are available on the market. When choosing from a variety of winches, you need to consider the thickness of your boat’s deck as well as the amount of underdeck space. Vertical anchor winches have the capstan positioned above the deck, while the motor and gearbox are placed below. This design is typically favored by boaters, while it requires relatively little deck space. As for horizontal winches, all their parts are mounted on the deck, having the mechanism situated on both sides of the capstan. These winches are typically used when you have no convenient access to the underside of the deck.

Picking the right type anchor winch for your boat, pay attention to such criteria as its pull speed and pull capacity. The pull capacity of your winch determines the heaviest load it is engineered to carry as well as the load it actually carries. The pull speed of the winch shows how many feet of the rode it can bring in per minute. Average pull speed of the anchor winches equals 80' per minute and is considered optimal, as far as retrieving the anchor at lower speed will last too long, while if the speed is higher, the anchor may cause damage to the boat when pulled up. These criteria will allow you to choose the right winch compatible with your boat.
