In open waters, keeping everything under control is especially crucial. Even small issues can easily turn into dangerous situations, and in order to prevent them, there must be reliable monitoring and control systems on a vessel. Many of such systems were developed by Maretron, an American company established in 2003. Its first products were a compass, GPS antenna, and temperature/speed/depth transducer, but gradually, the company greatly expanded the assortment and designed lots of equipment based on the NMEA 2000 protocol to monitor engines, generators, batteries, bilge mechanisms, and signals from various gas and fire detectors.
Most of these products are meant for commercial and recreational vessels. Thanks to innovative metering technology and accurate sensors, the Maretron fuel flow monitor got the 2012 Sail Magazine Pittman Innovation award. This device takes into account temperature compensation to give precise fuel flow information that helps to optimize fuel consumption and save lots of money. Available in different versions, Maretron tank level monitors use ultrasonic technology to sense fluid levels in tanks filled with fuel or other liquids, yet there is a special model for gasoline.
Connected to the vessel’s NMEA 2000 network, they can send their data to the Maretron engine monitor.
